Kate Middleton official portrait

Duchess Kate Middleton's first official portrait as a royal has been blasted by critics- with DailyMail calling it "rotten."

"Kate Middleton is a pretty young woman with an infectious smile, a cascade of chestnut hair and a healthy bloom. So how is it that she has been transformed into something unpleasant from the 'Twilight' franchise," Guardian arts writer Charlotte Higgins wrote.

"He made her look older than she is and her eyes don't sparkle in the way that they do and there's something rather dour about the face," Waldemar Januszczak, art critic for The Sunday Times, told BBC News.

"Fortunately, the Duchess of Cambridge looks nothing like this in real life," The DailyMail wrote.

We agree, Middleton is much more beautiful in real life. The portrait barely captures that.

Painted by Glasgow-born artist Paul Emsley, the portrait was unveiled at an event at London's National Portray Gallery this morning. Emsley reportedly spent three and a half months painting the portrait based on photos he took during two sittings last May and June.
