'America's Got Talent': Did Timothy Michael Poe Lie About His Combat Injuries?
Country singer Timothy Michael Poe told a heart-wrenching story when he appeared on "America's Got Talent" on Tuesday, telling the judges that he suffered a broken back and brain injury while serving in Afghanistan in 2009.
However, the Minnesota National Guard where Poe served claims they have no record of combat injuries alleged to have been suffered by the 35-year-old Texas man.
"We looked very closely at his record," a spokesman for the Minnesota National Guard, told The Associated Press. "We did not find something to substantiate what he said."
Records indicate Poe served from December 2002 through May 2011, working as a supply specialist. He was deployed in Kosovo from Oct. 10, 2007 to July 15, 2008, and then served in Afghanistan for about a month in 2009.
An NBC spokesperson said the network had no comment. Howard Stern, however, blasted Poe on his SiriusXM radio show Wednesday morning.
"You could be the most f***ed up liar on the planet, but you never lie about your military service," he said. "This lie is so wrong on so many levels...This really sickens me."
Poe told TMZ Wednesday that his injury and stutter are real and he plans to sue his ex-wife and several others for telling the media he was lying.
