Jenelle Hutcherson: Lesbian Contestant Competing In California Beauty Pageant

Beauty queen aspirant Jenelle Hutcherson will take to the runway at Miss Long Beach and Miss Southern California cities pageant this Sunday as the first openly lesbian contestant in the competition.

"I hope to bring a message of equality," the 25-year-old hair stylist explains her reason for entering the pageant.

Hutcherson, who rocks a Mohawk, tattoos and a pierced nose, plans to wear a tuxedo to the formalwear competition. For the swimwear competition, Hutcherson will be wearing a 1930's inspired handmade boy shorts.

"I want [people] to remember that beauty is something we see every day and comes from within, and just like what I create every day as an artist in the beauty industry and will represent on stage, a Variety of Beauty. Do not clip your own wings, Love and Believe in yourself first, then spread your wings and Fly!" Hutcherson said in a recent interview.

"I believe this very well may be the craziest, most insane, life experience I have put myself through yet!" she added.

The pageant is Sunday, November 13 at 6pm at the Grand Long Beach Event Center.
