Emmy Awards

The nominations for the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Thursday.

The series with the largest number of nominations were "Mad Men" with 19 nods, followed by "Modern Family", with 17. HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce" starring Kate Winslet scored 21 bids including best actress for Winslet

Mad men star John Slattery reacted to his nomination, saying: "You know, it's happened before. But it would be presumptuous to expect anything. It's still a surprise, and it's exciting. That doesn't really go away. The ritual of the experience is more familiar, but it doesn't dampen the excitement. ... You think, 'All right, we've had our fun, and now it's someone else's turn.' And then it gets more than last year!"

So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley: "For me to come to America, to have won an Emmy, to be the only girl in this category is absolutely amazing. ... I heard about the news in bed. We taped the show yesterday. I'm literally running around right now, I've got wet hair, and I'm still standing in my underwear. "

House star Hugh Laurie: "I'm very excited. This time I'm going to put a whole rabbit on my keychain".

Modern Family star Ed O'Neill:"After all of these years in the industry, I am so touched and honored to be nominated for the first time for an Emmy Award - especially on such a great show that I look forward to coming to everyday."

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards will be held Sept. 18 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The event will be hosted by Jane Lynch.
