Scotty McCreery - Amazed - American Idol May 18 Video

American Idol's top three - Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart are performing three songs tonight (May 18, 2011) : one picked by the contestants, one chosen by Jimmy Iovine and a song that one of the judges chose for them.

Beyonce serves as the mentor this week.

Scotty McCreery is up first. He is singing Lonestar's Amazed.

"His voice is just so full and warm," Beyonce says of Scotty. "It's interesting to hear him going to his high range."

Scotty starts the song leaning against the piano. The song showed Scotty's range we all know he has. Smart song choice.

Steven Tyler: "I think you just keep getting better and better. You really did take that song up a notch. Did I hear you get angry during the modulation?"

Jennifer Lopez: "It was a great way to start the show. I'm sure there are a million girls out there who wish you were singing to them."

Randy: "You're picking smart things. You know who you are and where your lane is. Some pitchy spots, but the end of the song.wow you put a period on the end of the song."
