Isabelle Caro, a French model whose anorexic image was featured in a shock Italian ad campaign, has died at the age of 28.

Caro died on November 17 after returning to France from a job in Tokyo, her instructor, Daniele Dubreuil-Prevot said. Dubreuil-Prevot said she did not know the cause of death but that Caro 'had been sick for a long time,' referring to her anorexia.

The dangerously-skinny model made headlines in 2007 when she posed nude for the controversial ad campaign "No Anorexia", to raise public awareness of the ailment.

At 5ft 4in, she weighed just 68lbs at the time. Born in Marseille, France on September 12, 1982, Isabelle had suffered from anorexia since she was 13. In 2008 she released an autobiography called The Little Girl Who Didn't Want to Get Fat. In later interviews, she said she weighed about 27 kilograms, or 59 lbs.

In 2010, Isabelle was featured on an episode of Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty. Watch her appearance on "The Price of Beauty" below.
