Mark Ballas: Why Bristol Palin Is Still on Dancing With The Stars

It's no secret that Bristol Palin isn't the best dancer. She has been hovering near the bottom of the Dancing with the Stars leader board practically every week.
But the way people are voting, she may very well make it to the finals next week.
So what is it that has America voting for her?
Her professional partner, Mark Ballas, explains, "The thing about this show is, you get people who come from an entertainment background, whether it's a sport, a TV show ... Bristol's not any of those things," he said.
"She's not a TV star, she's not a singer, she's not an entertainer of any kind. She's the most normal person; sweet, down to earth ... like a friend you'd hang out with. I think people can watch and relate to that. So for me as a coach, to take someone like this - I've had Olympic athletes, I've had Cheetah Girls, Shannen Doherty, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Kim Kardashian ... this is one of my proudest moments, taking a non-dancer and turning her into what she is now," Mark added.
Do you think she deserves to be in the DWTS finals?

Why is bristol still on dancing with the stars she can't dance. I through the show was about dancing not about her name.I love the show but when it start being about one person that can't dance I don't want to watch it any more.Bristol dances like a stiff board. I guess the people that are voting for her can't dance, maybe that is why they are voting for her or maybe they think her mother is dancing. The rest of the dancer better watch out because they are next. It dosen't matter if you can dance or not it is all about your name thats all I have to say.

I have to agree totally with D. Holmes. People aren't voting for Bristol, they're voting for her mother. You could see the look of shock on the faces of the judges, the audience and the other contestants when they announced Brandy was going home.I can't believe the American public is so stupid they keep saving Bristol week after week, they're not voting for her, they are voting for her mother.

I have been watching your show for the past three years. This is the first time that your DWTS has disappointed me in the ratings. Brandy did much better than Bristol each evening and it is unfair that Brandy had to leave. This will be my last time viewing what I thought was a great show.

I completly agree, Bristol is just a pathetic joke. She should have left weeks ago, if she wins this show, i will never watch dancing with the stars again. One guy in Wisconsin actually shot his television after hearing she was safe and Brandy was leaving. It just shows how horrible she realy is. Bristol needs to go home already because she simply sucks!

All of the above are excellent comments. Bristol is a total joke like her mother. They all need to go home and stay put in Alaska to hunt and fish. Does Sarah really think she is qualified to be a President without brains; does Bristol really think she is qualified to win dancing without grace? Bristol is a joke and is ruining everything for the show? What arrogant airheads! If Bristol wins next Tuesday night, I won't be watching again either! The tea party is a damn joke and is responsible for voting without watching the show--I scream voter fraud!

I am glad Bristol has made it this far. She has worked very hard and has done well for a girl with no experience in entertainment or dancing. Some people gave very nasty comments about her from the beginning simply because they do not like her mother's politics! I do think people are voting for her because she is a normal girl and has overcome many problems like a lot of teenagers have had to do. I cannot believe how the mainline media has tried to destroy her and her family, the name calling, and horrible remarks. On a positive side, I know many are voting also because of the way some of the haters have shown their true colors. I say go for it, Bristol - many love you and support you.

I have watched Dancing with the Stars for years and have never seen anything so unfair as this Bristal Pailin who is always in the bottom ten being chosen over the real dancers in the group. It's just because of her mother and as far as I am concerned they both should go back to Alaska and stay there. The show isn't any fun to watch anymore when things like this happen.

Oh, how amusing. Suddenly liberals are concerned about meritocracy and voter fraud! Bristol sure has opened their eyes--doubtless they won't make the connection.

Crystal has guts! More power to her. Even after all the nasty remarks she goes out there and gives it her all! She has character. How many of you could do that?

I don't watch DWTS but just had to go see Bristol on youtube.
Her partner is a good coach, and I love watching them dance. Since I haven't watched the others, I can't say if I think Bristol should be in the finals, but the majority does, so she is!

The show should not be about politics of any persuasion.
No disrespect to Bristol, she is giving it her all and improving every week, but it is unfair that she should still be on the show at the expense of much more talented dancers in the past couple of weeks.
The show needs to be overhauled so that voters' say is minimized compared to the judges who actually are qualified to pass judgement on what should be a DANCING show, not some popularity contest based on non dancing criteria.
I have nothing against Bristol Palin. I don't know her and she's not her mother and should not be judged for being Sarah Palin's daughter on a DANCING competition.
Tough luck on Brandy, she deserved to be in the final because her DANCING was superior.

Why isn't anyone seeing that it was Maksim's colossal blunder of dissin' judge Carrie Ann that caused he 7 Brandy to be eliminated early. Mark & Bristol were due for elimination the week before the final but Maks argues with one of the judges during the adjudication & refuses to apologize later when co-host Brooke Burke purposely challenged him to do just that before America voted. His bad boy arrogance & lack of class made his TEAM very unlikeable! Nobody wants to reward that behavior. In the real danceworld - trying to bully or intimidate a judge before or during an adjudication - is grounds for disqualification! These judges gave technical marks that down-graded Maksim & Brandy to third of the remaining four teams. America judged the other untangibles like entertainment value, effort, sportmanmship, & likeability. In the world of pop favorites these things matter in equal proportion to talent! Maks was also responsible for the demise of his previous partners Mel B. `Scary Spice` `& Ms. Ali (Muhammed Ali`s daughter)in like manner! The guy has such a long record of RUDENESS that America will never LIKE him enough to vote him any part of a DWTS championship. DWTS producers need to consider his future with the show - as he has saddled every one of his partners with this handicap. Bristol`s positioning was fair enough - all things considered. From day one her humble appeal reminded us of the vulnerable & self-depricating efforts of Kelly Osbourne! They were non-entertainers that we wanted to see succeed. And they were underdogs that we could encourage with our votes. It`s a travesty that the obvious explanation for her team`s advancement into the final as b een totally over-looked by the very liberal & democratic leaning media. FYI - WHO was REALLY trying to influence the voting patterns on DWTS? FYI - I am NOT a republican!

Sure she belongs on DWTS. She does not deserve her recent vote to stay on. The judges do not have enough say in the percentage of votes for contestants. They know who can dance. The show has become a popularity contest. May be the last year for me as a fan.
