Griffith Harsh V, the son of the Republican nominee for governor of California, Meg Whitman, was accused of sexually assaulting a Princeton classmate four years ago, reports Gawker.com.

Griffith Harsh reportedly admitted before a Princeton disciplinary board that he and his accuser had sex, but insisted it was consensual.

The woman was reluctant to press charges because she feared "social repercussions," a friend of the woman said. "She didn't want to press charges because it's Meg Whitman's son. She didn't want to go through that. She didn't go to the police," the friend said.

The Princeton committee decided there wasn't enough evidence to expel Harsh. Harsh took a year-long leave of absence and eventually graduated.

From Gawker,

He graduated with the class of 2009, three years after his rape accusation-and two years after the inauguration of Whitman College, the residential living complex his billionaire mother donated $30 million to help build. The donation was announced in 2002, the year before Griff matriculated.

Shortly after the rape accusation, Harsh was arrested in California for allegedly breaking a woman's ankle during a bar brawl. Whitman bailed her son out of jail and the felony battery charge was eventually dropped for reasons unclear.
