Remembering Sladjana Vidovic : Mentor High School Bullying Victim

Sladjana Vidovic, a 16-year-old girl originally from Croatia, killed herself in 2008, leaving behind a suicide note about students taunting her, mocking her accent and ethnicity and calling her a slut.
She was the fourth student to commit suicide in the Mentor school district in just over two years. All were victims of bullying. One was bullied for being gay, another for having a learning disability, another for being a boy who happened to like wearing pink.
But, nowhere has there been a soul-searching among the bullies in Mentor.
At her wake in October 2008, as Sladjana Vidovic's body lay in an open casket, the girls who had tormented Sladjana for months walked up to the casket - and laughed.
"They were laughing at the way she looked," Sladjana's sister Suzana says, crying. "Even though she died."

My thoughts are with Sladjana's family.
Most of the bullying are directed at foreigners, less athletic and odd dressers. I was one of those foreigners to have survived bullying. I was bullied for my accent. The tormenting became so severe in teen years, that I left school and started working at my mother's small embroidery store.
12 years later, I became the owner of three boutiques, two in LA, one in San Francisco. And one fine day, my high school bully - the cheerleader, the most beautiful girl in school, came looking for a job at my store.
With two kids, no husband, no job, she was totally broke. She literally begged me until I told her that I recognize her from school.
Now she works for me as a maid at my home.
My story sounds like a movie, but it's true.

What a sad story. These kids should be punished to the fullest, taken out of school, put in jail etc. This is sick. Their parents should also be held accountable.

Okay.... I'm sorry, I'm normally not like this but I really hope that when those girls that laughed at her die they get the exact same fucking treatment because they, unlike Sladjana, fucking deserve it!

As a parent, I want to brutally beat the parents of those kids.

The real problem is people think it's kids being kids and its all part of learning life's lessons. If you were at work and your co-workers treat you like this, that would be criminal. Why should our children deserve less than us?
I hope the bullies suffer horribly in the future.

As a former victim Of High school Bully, I think that any teacher who knew about it should lose their license They should Be forbidden to teach ever again. Their inaction qualifies them as not good enough to be called Teacher.

what kind of disgusting students would laugh at a dead poor girl
maybe those students are just a slut themselves
insecurity is the reason why those students bully a student like them....

Dacia you are a saint...
I would have kicked her .... all the way down to the sideway...!
No kidding...
This story had shocked me so much I posted in my facebook profile with some serious comments.. How come no one does anything to change behaviors and condemn these kind of bullying ? What are they waiting for ?
Maybe after some Senator daughter's death something will be done ?
All this just makes me sick...

Does anyone know the names of the kids who laughed at her at the funeral or any of the bullies?

Exactly, the bullies names need to be made public, just like other criminals. 4chan needs to get involved. They can set the world right....

Why are these people not in jail? They've repeatedly failed to protect teens under their care and have repeatedly allowed harrassment, assault, battery, and bullying to be commonplace on their campus.
Dr. Jacqueline Hoynes, superintendent
Joseph Spiccia, principal
Lawrence Luciano, assistant principal
John Diamond, Unit 12 principal
Christl Wolf, Unit 11 principal
Lee Munoz, Unit 10 principal
Adam Dudziak , Unit 9 principal
These people are CRIMINALS whose negligence and incompetence has resulted in the death of 4 teens in their care.
What if this was a workplace and not a high school? Can you imagine if this was happening at a bank, or manufacturing plant? The supervisors would be fired. The business would be sued to moon. Yet, because it's high school we allow this kind of thing to go on? Don't these people know that teens are impressionable and by allowing something to happen even once, they will continue to do it. Apparently until someone dies, and even after.
Mentor High is churning out sociopaths. Good job, people!

The parents of these bullies should be sued and jailed, too.
The bullies should be sent to jail so they can be bullied by professionals. I wonder how long they would last?
Mentor, Ohio should be ashamed and disgusted.

being a father of two girls and having three granddaughters of which one is disabled i find it appaling that these girls are so heartless that they laugh at the loss of life of a person at their funeral. i know that teenagers can be cruel but this goes beyond cruel. I thank god that my kids are not that way, and for mentor high to have this many problems for its size is a bad reflection on our society

I would like to thank the person who published the names of the cowardly and worthless teachers and school administrators who allowed this to happen. Their names and photos should be on billboards all over the country.

I don't think anything has ever made me so sick in my entire life. I'd like to know the names of the bullies themselves who laughed at her in her casket at the funeral and how are this going to be addressed with them.

Those bullies should be charged for murder. Let's see if they laugh for that.

As a current student at Mentor High, I was there when Sladjana died, and I can tell you there were kids laughing and saying they were happy and how she deserved. But those kids were put in the place, and quickly they shut their mouths. I think they felt so horrible they didn't even know what to do, so they did the easy thing, continue to put someone down because they honestly didn't like themselves. te girls that called her a slut, were pathetic to core. They were only covering up the fact that they were ten times more permiscous then Sladjana had ever been.
Blame the bullies that tormented these kids daily for nothing more than personal amusement, not the school or staff. If a teacher did actually say something to stop the bullying, it didn't stop it completely. The bullies just got sneakier and waited till after school or class. Kids aren't stupid and if they want to get away with some, they will. If Eric's math teacher, whom is currently getting sued, did yell at the boys for picking on him, he only would have gotten bullied ten times harder after class.
If you want someone to blame, blame the kids the tease other classmates relentlessly. Yes, were under 18, so the media and people in general want to find some older, and more "wise" to stop the bullying. But, in all reality if your in high school, your old enough to know right from wrong. PERIOD.
Mr.Spiccia brought are whole school to an assembly today just to tell us that he cares about every single student that walks threw MHS's doors each morning, that he and all of the staff are hear for us, that the media is disgracing our school and depictating us unfair, and that the staff and the students don't deserve it, and that when we graduate, we should hold our heads high, because Mentor is an amazing school and we should never be ashamed to have been apart of it, EVER.
My English teacher still carries around a binder full of poetry and stories written by a student who passed away, because she was "so close to her heart".
Does that sound like a criminal to you.?
Our school, staff and students alike are amazing. You'll never find a school like us, so giving us the nick name of "Suicide High" won't bring us down. For the most part the students at MHS are respectful and kind, its unfortunate that the media will never do a story on those kids.

I am 43 years old and the bullying I endured in middle school 30 years ago still hurts to this day. Ironically though, two of the worst offenders have since died and a number of the others have less than enviable lives. I recently saw one of my former bullies on Facebook and I sent him a message asking him if he remembered all the abuse he handed out to me back then. I then told him that despite it all, my life has turned out far better than I ever dreamed or hoped. He claimed to remember none of it but he did say he was "truly sorry for whatever he may have done." He then added how his own life was an "absolute horror." I've actually heard from other people that is true, that his life is pretty bad. I then started to feel a touch of pity for him and I e-mailed him back and told him all was forgiven and I'd be willing to be friends today if he cared to. I also said that maybe I should have been a little more charitable toward him and not held on to it all for so long. I never heard a word back from him. In truth, I do forgive him but I'm not sorry for telling him how much he hurt me. I feel time obviously took care of the whole situation in its own natural way. His parting words to me were "Karma's a bitch. You win." In an odd way, I can't say I feel happy about "winning" and I actually still do feel a touch of pity toward him but he's right - karma does ultimately take care of it all.

I am a student at Mentor, and I can honestly say, That school is amazing. It's hard for me to see my school talked about in such HORRIBLE ways. The media is generally calling us a horrible school. It's completely unfair.
Our school shouln't be the ones getting attacked from the media. It's the bullies faults, not the schools. It's NOT exceptable to bully anyone, and these kids should feel much guilt. My sympathy is for everyone that lost their child like this, even out of Mentor.
My school is being attacked. And it's completely unfair to everyone who's attended and done nothing but good. People who bully make me SICK!But to generally judge a school is not right. There's many great things about Mentor that we aren't mentioned in the media. And for people outside of Mentor saying disturbing things about us, isn't fair either. We are a AMAZING school. The people who bullied should feel shame and guilt for making someone feel so bad that they have to take their own lives.
Mentor Pride<3
RIP to everyone who took their own lives.

I am a parent a of a student at Ridge in Mentor and I think some teachers do not use common sense. I believe if you go to school and bother other students. You should be immediately taken out. You are there for one purpose. It is to learn. If you can not do that you must go. My son for a punishment was put on the floor to eat his lunch for a detention. He forgot his homework. So there are bullies at every level in Mentor Public Schools.

Each year 500,000 young adults, aged 15 to 25 attempt suicide, and each year 5,000 of them succeed. The biggest cause of this is from being bullied.Thats too many lives lost because of people who think its a joke and think its funny certan people die..Its rediculas young lives shouldnt be just thrown away because people think it's a joke...Well its not so if people dont start changing now it might never happen, and more lives will just keep disapearing form existance...

That is so, so awful. How can people be so cruel? Laughing at her when she's already DEAD IN A CASKET is just pathological. Those kids need to be committed. They sound like psychopaths.
