Van Der Sloot Ex-Girlfriend Melody Granadillo '20/20' Interview

On : 2010 Jun 18

On Friday's 20/20 on ABC, Joran van der Sloot's ex-girlfriend Melody Granadillo talks about her relationship with the accused killer.

"He was amazing. ... He was romantic," the 23-year-old said of her former boyfriend. "It was very playful, very honest. We could sit and talk for hours. We liked looking into each other's eyes."

"I told him I liked red Skittles ... and what he did was he made this vase at school, went and bought a lot of Skittles packets, he took all the red ones out ... and as a present I got a vase full of red Skittles," she said. "He did things like that ... he was real thoughtful."

Melody dated Van der Sloot for seven months after meeting him at a birthday party in Aruba in 2003. They were both 17 at the time. They broke up after she learned their romance was built on lies.

"He would lie for no apparent reason at all, and if you caught him at it ... he would double down and be even more serious about the story" she said and added that Van der Sloot cheated on her several times.

The interview, airing tonight on ABC, will also reveal mementos of their relationship, including pictures, e-mails and a special diary, which details aspects of their love affair.

Van der Sloot, 22, is currently being held in a Peruvian prison. He has confessed to murdering 21-year-old Peruvian business student Stephany Flores Ramirez last month, and is also suspected in connection with the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba.

ehh...if Joran and Melody dated in 2003, they must have been 15 or just turned 16, not 17 years old.

Melody was 17 and Joran 16, he was 10 months younger, smartass.
