Talented Students Vie For Title At Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee

Anamika Veeramani, a 14-year-old girl from Ohio, won the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee Friday, June 4. Anamika spelled "stromuhr," to take top honors in the 83rd annual Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The eighth-grader won $40,000 in cash and prizes for nailing the final word "Stromuhr" - which means a device designed to measure the amount and speed of blood flow through an artery.

"It was too surreal," said Anamika, who beat out 272 contestants. "It was an amazing experience."

Anamika is the eighth Indian-American to win the contest. She attends Incarnate Word Academy, plays golf and loves to dance. She plans to become a cardiovascular surgeon.
