Lady Gaga Talks Lupus, Her Health Problems, Smoking Habits
In a very candid interview with UK's Times, Lady Gaga opens up about her health, hinting she might have Lupus, a genetic disease that killed her aunt. Check out some highlights from the interview:
On her health: I have heart palpitations and. things. It's just from fatigue and other things.
On being tested for Lupus, a genetic desease: Yes, But I don't want anyone to be worried. I'm very connected to my aunt, Joanne, who died of lupus. It's a very personal thing. I don't want my fans to be worried about me.
On the last time she called emergency services: "The other day. In Tokyo. I was having trouble breathing. I had a little oxygen, then I went on stage. I was OK. But like I say, I don't want anyone to worry."
On why she keeps collapsing: My schedule is such that I don't get very much time to eat. But I certainly don't have an eating problem. A little MDMA [Ecstasy] once in a while never killed anybody, but I really don't do drugs. I don't touch cocaine any more. I don't smoke. Well, maybe a single cigarette - with whisky - while I'm working, because it just frees my mind a little bit. But I care about my voice. The thrill of my voice being healthy on stage is really special. I take care of myself.
On walking the red carpet : To be honest with you, I don't give a f*** about red carpets, and I never do them. I don't like them. First of all - how could any of these outfits possibly look good with an ugly red carpet under them?

It is very sad to hear about Lady Gaga's Aunt who died of Lupus, however it is great that she is aware of the disease and hopefully she takes the time to spread awareness, as it is a very hard and, as of yet, incurable auto-immune disorder.
I would like to point out a few things. Lupus is NOT a genetic disease. If it were, it would be easier to locate the gene that causes the disease and therefore be helpful in developing a cure, or at the very least, better medication for those who suffer acute or chronic pain due to the symptoms of lupus. I think that the article and questions are misleading. Also, heart palpitations are not a common side effect of Lupus. This may be unique to Lady Gaga as she drinks alcohol and takes drugs and also has a very busy schedule that may leave her not in the best of health at times.
Again, I really hope that Lady Gaga pursues this cause and sheds some light on the often ignored sturggle of Lupus. For more correct information on Lupus, please visit www.lupus.org.
