Tracy Jackson Photos, Mark Souder Resigns Over Extra Marital Affair

Indiana Republican Rep. Mark Souder announced Tuesday he would resign from Congress after admitting to having had an adulterous affair with a staffer Tracy Jackson.

"I sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff," Souder said in a statement. "I wish I could have been a better example. In this poisonous environment of Washington D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted for political gain. I am resigning rather than put my family through that painful, drawn-out process. We are a committed family but the error is mine and I should bear the responsibility."

Tracy Jackson, 45, handled communications for Souder in his northern Indiana district office. She is still on the staff. She is said to be in her mid-40s and married.

Souder, 59, has been married to Diane Zimmer since 1974. They have three children and two grandchildren.
