'American Idol' Contestant Angela Martin's Mother Missing

On : 2010 Jan 26

This is awful! Three-time "American Idol" hopeful, Angela Martin is dealing with yet another tragedy.

Last week, we saw Angela Martin get the golden ticket to Hollywood after singing "Just Fine" by Mary J. Blige during the Chicago auditions, held in August.

The 28-year-old single mom of a special needs daughter, first auditioned for "Idol" in 2007. Shortly after winning her golden ticket, her father was murdered. In 2008, she made it to the Top 50, but had to leave the competition to go to court for a traffic violation.

This year she made it to Hollywood with a unanimous approval from the judges.

But tragedy has struck Angela for a third time. Her mother was reported missing after Christmas.

Angela's mother Viola Brown, was going to visit Angela's older sister after the holidays, but never arrived. Police found Viola's car on New Year's Eve in an unfamiliar neighborhood.

"We haven't heard anything yet," Angela tells PEOPLE. "The detectives have been calling my sisters and myself, and just keeping us informed. They say they are still just looking and asking us more questions, if we know anything but her friends are calling us, so it's hard."

So sad. Our thoughts are with this girl.
