Simon Cowell Leaving American Idol !
Simon Cowell has confirmed he is leaving American Idol after this season to launch his American version of The X Factor.
"This will be my last season on American Idol," Simon confirmed at a press conference.
Simon will serve as executive producer and judge on the American version of X Factor, which is slated to premiere on Fox in 2011.
"I'm thrilled that we have put a date on the launch of the U.S. version of The X Factor, and delighted to be continuing to work with FOX," he says in a statement. "We have a fantastic relationship, a great team and are all very excited about this."
The new season of "American Idol" featuring new judge Ellen DeGeneres kicks off on FOX on January 12th.
