Lake Champlain Bridge Demolition (Video)

On : 2009 Dec 28

The Lake Champlain Bridge between New York and Vermont was brought down Monday morning by controlled detonation.

As onlookers watched, the 80-year-old, 2,184-foot-long bridge, also known as the Crown Point Bridge dropped into Lake Champlain in less than ten seconds.

The demolition was carried out by a company called Advance Explosives Demolition using more than 500 pre-set high-tech linear-shaped explosive charge.

The bridge was shut down in October after it was deemed unsafe.

Debris will be removed by the spring. New construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2011.
