Miss England Rachel Christie Loses Crown

Reigning Miss England Rachel Christie has given up her crown after being accused of assaulting another beauty queen during a fight in a bar.

According to UK sources, 21 year old Christie got into a dustup with Miss Manchester Sara Beverley Jones - in a nightclub earlier this week.

Christie allegedly punched Jones, in the face several times during the fight over her TV Gladiator boyfriend Tornado [David McIntosh]. It is thought that Miss Jones is an ex-girlfriend of Tornado.

Christie was arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Pageant organizers say Rachel Christie has also withdrawn from next month's Miss World competition in South Africa.

Christie was the first black woman to be crowned Miss England. She is the niece of former Olympic sprinter Linford Christie.

A professional track and field athlete Christie is hoping to compete in the 2012 Olympics.

In a statement, pageant officials said that the heptathlete will now focus on clearing her name and training for the 2012 Olympics.
