A man named Robert Halderman has been arrested today in the David Letterman extortion case.

According to RadarOnline, Robert Halderman was a producer for CBS's 48 Hours. He is 51-year-old and lives in Norwalk, CT.

During Thursday's taping of his late night talk show, Letterman shocked fans by revealing that he has been the victim of an extortion plot over "sexual relationships" he had with female members of his staff.

He said someone demanded $2 million from him three weeks ago to keep quiet about various sexual liaisons he had with his female employees.

Letterman told his audience:

"This morning, I did something I've never done in my life," Letterman, 62, said. "I had to go downtown and testify before a grand jury."

In his testimony he acknowledged his sexual relations.

"My response to that is, yes I have. Would it be embarrassing if it were made public? Perhaps it would," said Letterman. "I feel like I need to protect these people - I need to certainly protect my family."

Letterman married longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March. They have a son, Harry, who turns 6 next month. See photo below.
