Samantha Geimer Picture, Roman Polanski Arrested
Academy Award-winning director Roman Polanski was taken into custody in Switzerland last night, on a U.S. warrant related to his statutory rape conviction more 30 years ago.
Roman Polanski fled the United States in 1978 after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl Samantha Geimer, in California.
He was accused of giving alcohol and sedatives to Samantha Geimer and performing various sex acts, including intercourse, with her during a photo shoot at the Los Angeles home of Jack Nicholson.
Nicholson's then-girlfriend, Academy Award-winning actress Anjelica Huston, was at the house at the time.
Polanski, a French citizen, has never returned to the U.S. since then and has asked a judge to dismiss the case against him.
On Saturday, he was on his way to the Zurich Film Festival, where he was supposed to receive an honorary award. He was arrested by Swiss authorities upon his arrival at the airport.
Samantha Geimer, now 45, is married with three children. Geimer, who received an undisclosed settlement has recently asked for the charges to be dropped, saying the continued publication of details "causes harm to me, my husband and children."
Polanski, 76, who received a directing Oscar for The Pianist, is married to French actress Emanuelle Seigner, and has two children.

Roman Polanski has been free all these years because FRANCE refused to extradite him. Just like FRANCE has refused to extradite other "average joe" criminals over the years. Of course American prosecuters have known where Roman Polanski is "hiding" all along. Fancy technology has nothing to do with it. Heck, I'm just an average citizen and I've known Polanski fled to France years ago. What you need to understand is, Polanski wasn't "hiding" in France, he was living freely in France. FRANCE DIDN'T CARE.

Manson follower Susan Atkins who had killed Roman Polanski's wife, Sharon Tate died a couple of days ago and now this announced arrest of Roman Polanski.
What I can't understand is, how did Polanski manage to evade the law all these years with the so called technology of cameras and GPS, etc. There is just NO way that one can hide from the law with all of technology that is out there.
Something is just screwy here. I think the authorities DID know where he was hiding all these years. And one has to question as to why did they decide to arrest him NOW and not arrest him from years ago? Not to mention that this is going to cost taxpayers money for a trial that will drag on for years.
This is another example of how there is no such thing as "justice" in the justice system in the USA. Criminals go free while the innocent and victims get sent to prison.
