Ellen DeGeneres American Idol Judge

It's official! Ellen DeGeneres has joined American Idol as a fourth judge.

Ellen announced the big news during a taping of her talk show today, saying "I have a big announcement to make. No one knows this ... I am going to be the new judge on 'American Idol.'"

Fox has confirmed that Ellen, 51, will be replacing Paula Abdul as the fourth judge on American Idol this season.

Ellen DeGeneres has joined AMERICAN IDOL as a fourth judge. DeGeneres will sit alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi and offer her own unique perspective to the contestants throughout the competition.

Ellen will join the judges' panel after the auditions. The ninth season of American Idol premieres January 2010 on FOX.

This is ridiculous! Ellen DeGeneres does not represent the majority of the audience.  You have Ryan Secrest.  The emphasis will be taken off of the contestants and the show will be another Ellen show. You may as well get Eddie Murphy to be a judge or Jamie Fox- they can at least sing.  Yulck.  Rebbie Jackson or better yet get a local musician from each state to serve as the extra judge to represent the people but Ellen Degeneres?
