Man Slaps Child in Walmart, Charged With Felony Cruelty

A Walmart shopper allegedly slapped a 2-year-old girl several times because she wouldn't stop crying.
The incident happened Monday at the Walmart store near Atlanta, Georgia. A little girl and her mother were shopping when she began crying.
Roger Stephens, 61, walked up to the mother and allegedly said, "If you don't shut the baby up, I will shut her up for you."
A few moments later, Stephens allegedly grabbed the girl and slapped her four times, then told the mother, "See, I told you I would shut her up."
Stephens was stopped by another shopper and security was called. He was arrested and charged with cruelty with children in the first degree, which is a felony. He is being held without bond.

Alice.. if you think that this is in anyway okay then you should be thrown in jail with him. Children are going to be children and you MUST not have any kids to say these kind of things. A lot of parents get onto their kids and they start to cry because they don't get their way. They are innocent and don't know what they are doing or how disruptive they really are.
Here you have it America.. ignorance should DEFINATELY be a death sentence. This is the kind of people that kill innocent children!!

I hope they aren't too hard on this man. Agreed, it was wrong, but millions of cashiers also secretly understand. They have to put up with screaming brats 8 hours a day. It's enough to give most people a migraine.
There should be laws in stores where such parents can be charged if they have highly disruptive and annoying children. There is no reason they can't simply leave their baskets with a store employee and carry their children out of the store until they have calmed down.
Half of these screaming children have a noise decible level as high as a Hell's angel motorcycle.
When I look at this man I know right away that if he had been young and good looking, many more people would've understood. But his face seems to clearly show that he himself was raised under similar circumstances. Many people today are also unemployed and on the verge of cracking up and something like a child screaming at high decible could easily set them off. The mother might consider herself lucky her child wasn't shot. That kind of noise is hard enough on those of us who "aren't" suffering from that kind of stress versus those who are.
Of course that doesn't give him the reason to hit somone else's child, but millions of cashiers will certainly at least secretly admit they have often wanted to do the same at least once a day.
Store managers should ask such customers to leave. There is no reason that every customer in the store should be forced to endure the wails of her screaming brat.
If mothers are so offended that they never return, that's a bonus for the other 1000 customers who may have been driven out because of the noise. It's therefore also a bonus to the store so store managers or security should not be afraid to demand that they leave. They should also be given legal permission to be permitted to do so all over the world.
There is no excuse for mothers like this anymore than there is for people to hit their children.
