Rolling Stones' Founder Brian Jones Death to be Reviewed

Police will reportedly re-examine the 1969 death of the Rolling Stones' founder Brian Jones after receiving new evidence related to the case.

Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones died nearly forty years ago when he was just 27.

Jones was found dead in a swimming pool after a party at his home in Cotchford Farm, East Sussex in July 1969.

An inquest returned a verdict of death by misadventure. It was ruled that Jones had drowned while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. However, post mortem results showed he had not taken illegal drugs and had only a few beers.

Fans were not convinced and conspiracy theories followed that he was murdered.

One of the most popular conspiracy theories was that Jones was murdered by his builder, Frank Thorogood - who allegedly confessed to the killing before his death in 1993. The storyline formed the basis of the 2005 film "Stoned."

Police in Sussex, in southern England decided to review the case after receiving new information about the musician's death from an investigative journalist.

Journalist Scott Jones, who had handed over 600 documents to police, told The Mail On Sunday: "There is no time limit on the review. But after 40 years of mystery, anyone who values Brian's reputation will be happy to wait for the outcome."
