Amanda Rodrigues - Arturo Gatti's Wife Detained as a Suspect

Former boxing champion Arturo Gatti's wife Amanda Rodrigues has been detained as a suspect following his death at a posh seaside resort in northeastern Brazil.
 

Gatti,37, was found dead in a hotel room of Porto de Galihnas resort, early Saturday. He was on vacation with his wife Amanda and 10-month-old baby.
 

23-year-old Amanda Rodrigues was taken into custody Sunday because of contradictions when she was interrogated, the Associated Press reports.
 

Gatti was apparently strangled with the strap of a purse, which was found at the scene with blood stains. Police say, he also had a head injury.


Yesterday, it was reported that the couple was on a second honeymoon, but Acelino "Popo" Freitas, a Brazilian boxer, told Globo TV's Web site that he was a close friend of Gatti and his wife and that he "knew they were having some sort of problem and were about to separate."


Authorities were preparing to present a formal accusation against Rodrigues.
