Janet Jackson BET Awards 2009 VIDEO
Janet Jackson made her first public appearance at the BET Awards Sunday night since her brother Michael Jackson's death.
On behalf of the family, Janet,43, made a heartfelt speech thanking fans for all their love and support,
“My entire family wanted to be here tonight but it was too painful,” an emotional Janet told the audience.
“To you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family and he will forever live in our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself thank you for your love and support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much.”
Check out the video clip of Janet's tribute. Michael's dad, Joe Jackson, was in the press room where he spoke about the tribute.
"I think if Michael was here he would've enjoyed the celebration, but ... he couldn't be here. It's like he was larger than he was ever before. I think Michael gives his love to everybody and we hope his record will never be broken."
During a live interview on CNN television, Joe Jackson made sure to plug his record company.
