Miss California Carrie Prejean has 'No Regrets'

Miss California Carrie Prejean

The first runner-up Miss California USA Carrie Prejean raised eyebrows with her candid answer to a question about gay marriage during the Miss USA 2009 pageant.

Prejean says her answer cost her the crown but she stands by her answer. In an interview with FOXNews.com  the 21-year-old beauty said that she had "no regrets" and was happy with the answer she gave regarding same sex marriage.

"I have nothing against gay people and I didn't mean to offend anyone in my answer," Prejean said.

During Sunday night's Miss USA telecast Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton asked Prejean : "Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalise same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?"

Prejean said, "Well I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much."

Perez later video-blogged about the incident calling her a "dumb b****."

Congratulations Miss California Carrie Prejean! A person who can stand up in front of millions of people and show some serious integrity. If Perez was half a man, oh wait he is, he would have known that asking a controversial question like that just might get a controversial answer. You were awesome for standing up for the MORALES that you were raised with. The USA could use a lot more people like you!

I so agree w/JWR. Guess what? With credit to the winner of the pagent, you won. I have mixed feeling regarding the issue but like JWR pointed out you showed your integrity, your self and walked off that stage without compromise and that question was unfair and controversial but you answered with honesty and your heart. It didn't cost you the crown Carrie. It won you one. And that crown you will always retain. We are proud of you.

Congratulations, Carrie Prejean.

You did the right thing (AND, you did in the right, gentle way).  You  have lost THIS crown, but your honesty and your correct moral stand  will win you THE ultimate Crown, the only one that truly matters...  Jesus warned us that speaking His Truth will result in persecution in  this world, but will result in us obtaining the Crown that He won for  us.

By the way, I believe Carrie did NOT bash gays or anyone, in her very  gently, fairly phrased reply. I agree with the many people who are  angry about people bashing gays: i.e., I agree that in the process of  speaking out for the True Definition of what Marriage really is  (between Man and Woman), one should not bash those who go against  this defintion. Carrie has correctly spoken about True Marriage,  WITHOUT speaking disparagingly against gays/anyone. Hence there is no  need for anyone to speak disparagingly of her (as they have done on other websites).

So, well done Carrie; you have won a far greater victory than any  beauty contest; you are a true victor.

What has America become when only one view is accepted and any other view is condemned. Carrie spoke the truth and as a result has been condemened by the very people that complain about equality and diversity. I was raised in the same atmosphere that Carrie was and I still have homosexual friends. I don't condemn them for it but I believe that marriage sine the begiining of time has been defined as the legal union between a man and woman. If homosexuals want to be joined come up with a new name for it instead of marriage. I support the legal process of changing laws also that is what our country is all about. I wouldnot vote for it because it goes against my beliefs, but if it became law I would violate the benefits that come with that new law. I believe this shows the true face of what pageants like this have become, a stage for political propaganda to be forced on the public and as a result will not support it in the future until the women that compete in are not criticized for their views no matter what they are.

Kudos to Ms. Prejean.  It's refreshing to see someone who has the guts to stand up and speak honestly.  I am sick and tired of the demand for political correctness, where you can only express your view if its politically correct, which generally means skewed to the left.  I dont care about politics, and I respect the rights of others to choose the sexual orientation of their choosing.  But I have no respect for those who demand that we accept their views without question, such as the moronic judge who posed the question, obviously for the purpose of serving his own agenda.  I have never heard of Ms. Prejean before, but I am now a solid fan.  Good luck to you in whatever you choose to do in your life.  Don't change for anyone.

Carrie, you are my miss universe, you are my queen and i love you.

Congratulations Carrie, I was so proud of her answer and that she stood up in the face of controversy and didn't waver on what is right.  I send out praises for her for having morals and standing for them.  "Morals:  What are you willing to do in order to get where you're trying to go?  You can't get there just any kind of way; you must have boundaries.  Now all of us have broken the rules at some time.  But thank God we had rules to break! We were able to realign ourselves because somebody had pitched a tent on where 'right' is.  Today folks don't seem to know or care where 'right' is."  I think she is the best role model our young children should follow after and not that Mr. Perez.  You truly are a Queen in my eyes.

I applaud her for stating her beliefs.  However, the question was: Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalise same-sex marriage. DO YOU THINK EVERY STATE SHOULD FOLLOW SUIT? Why or why not?  Her answer fully avoided the actual question being asked... her beliefs are fine- it's great that we live somewhere that we can make choices thus should other states follow suit and allow citizens to make a choice? Legally?  Kudos to morals (as conservative and close-minded as they may be)- but ANSWER THE QUESTION!!  You're proud to live in a place that allows choice... then why not support access to those choices!?

Congradulations for speaking your peace. Too bad a controversal question like that was asked in a contest where so much is at stake. A question like that should never have been allowed. You will always be a winner in my mind and you should be a proud Ammerican for stating what's right. I pray the Lord will reward your life in the future for what you have done today. You are a winner!!!!!

We stand behind you, Carrie, 1000%.  I know that don't mean too much to you now, but you have a lot of support out here.  It seems, to tell the truth and stand up for your convictions, you are punished.  What the Hell is wrong with America?  The Judge should be punished, you are the victim. We love ya!!!!

# Monique -4/22/2009 10:52:42 AM
Thank you Carrie,

I'm am so glad you stood up for your beliefs. I wish every Christian would have the same conviction as you to stand up for Jesus.  Believe me He will reward you much greater than any pageant could ever do.  Pray for Mr. Hilton because whether he believes or not, one day he will bow to Jesus.

# Thank you Carrie -4/22/2009 12:43:47 PM
Thank you for standing up Carrie. we all support you.

Carrie, you are a wonderful and strong woman for speaking your beliefs and not bowing to the gay agenda so pathetically brought yet again to a national stage by the self serving Perez. Everyone I know is so sick of the gays pushing their views at every public forum - entertainment, education, in the courts, etc., ad nauseum. I can hardly wait until people demand the right to marry their sibling, their dog, a group, or their '59 Cadillac.  "loving relationships" all! . When marriage can be anything it will mean nothing.

Miss California

Congragulations!!!!!!   You are a winner!  Top notch and you will have your CROWN someday that is worth much much more!  Just keep up the honest truth and follow your raising, it's worth so much more!!

Thank you Miss California!

What a blessing to see that there are still people that stand by their beliefs.  I am ashamed that I used to enjoy listening to Perez Hilton and his reaction to your honesty was disgusting.  I find it interesting that the very people that are complaining about losing to Prop 8, say that those of us that voted for it are anti gay and don't believe in equal righs.  My father is gay ;and I was raised around many gay men, but I; like you still believe that marriage is mean't to be between a man and a woman.  I have no issues with civil unions.  I am disappointed to see what this nation has become and how this issue is such a divider.  I have good friends that no longer want anything to do with me becuase of my beliefs on this controversial subject.  So much for tolerance...
