Shakir Stewart Commited Suicide

Sad news to report. Shakir Stewart, the Executive Vice President of Def Jam Records, has committed suicide Saturday in New York. According to reports, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No further details are known at this time.
Def Jam Records is a popular hip-hop record label owned by Universal Music Group.
Stewart, a graduate of Morehouse College was appointed executive vice president in June. The Oakland-bred music lover was responsible for signing such talent as R&B sensation Ciara, rap stars Rick Ross and Young Jeezy. He was also involved in the solo career of Beyonce.

UPDATE: The record label issued a statement Sunday on behalf of Stewart's fiancee, Michelle Rivers, and his family.
"Over the past several weeks, Shakir's behavior was inconsistent with the man we all know and love," the statement said. "As much as we all tried to help him, Shakir was in deep pain and largely suffering in silence."
