The Strangers Kristen McKay and James Hoyt

The Strangers is a horror film inspired by an event from director Bryan Bertino's childhood. Written and directed by Bryan Bertino the film stars Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman.
 

The film opens with the following narration:

"What you are about to see is inspired by true events. According to the F.B.I. there are an estimated 1.4 million violent crimes in America each year. On the night of February 11, 2005 Kristen McKay and James Hoyt went to a friend's wedding reception and then returned to the Hoyt family's summer home. The brutal events that took place there are still not entirely known."

Apparently, Kristen rejected James wedding proposal and the evening takes a depressing turn. A strange girl knocks on the door and asks for someone named Tamara. Some scary incidents accompany her subsequent visit, and other folks join in as well.Three mysterious strangers terrorize the young couple.
 

There are some stories circulating on the Internet about the "true events" the movie is allegedly based on. Some stories says Kristen McKay and James Hoyt are real life characters. But internet news archives does not have any such information on "Kristen McKay and James Hoyt murder". In an interview, director Bertino also, said his main inspiration was Helter Skelter, a true crime book about the 1969 Manson family murders. So, I guess, "Kristen McKay and James Hoyt " are fictional characters, not real.
 

The thriller comes out on DVD Tuesday, just in time for Halloween.
