The two remaining finalists of American Idol, David Cook and David Archuleta performed in the live telecast before 7,000 people at Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre, Tuesday night. Each performed three songs in their attempts to win the hit talent show's seventh season.
In the first round, the singers sang tunes selected for them by record mogul Clive Davis. Cook kicked off the round with a solid performance of U2's "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." Archuleta followed with Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me"
David C. worked hard on "Dream Big," in round two, while Archuleta went for Ryan Gillmor's "In This Moment."
In the third round, David Cook gave a beautiful, moving rendition of "The World I Know." Archuleta sang "Imagine."
The judges were unusually united in proclaiming that teenager David Archuleta, had outperformed his rival. "You came out here tonight to win," Simon Cowell said to Archuleta, "and what we have witnessed is a knockout."
Fans had four hours after the broadcast to vote for their favorite. The winner will be revealed on Wednesday night at the end of a two-hour “Idol” finale, at 8.
